Competition Law in Transition – Call for Papers

17th April

XLV Competition Law Scholars Forum (CLaSF) Workshop

Competition Law in Transition

Friday 17 April 2026

University of Lisbon Law School

The Competition Law Scholars Forum (CLASF) is pleased to announce its XLV workshop, focusing on the broad topic of ‘Competition Law in Transition’. This is particularly timely given the ongoing debates about the role of competition law in civic society in western democracies.

We welcome papers that explore this broad themes from doctrinal, economic, comparative, or policy-oriented perspectives. Topics of particular interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Competition law as a system of ex post facto censure or ex ante regulation
  • The compatibility (or tension) between wider policy goals and EU competition law
  • The appropriate balance of different enforcement tools and approaches in competition law enforcement
  • Comparative approaches to balancing competition law with broader policy objectives
  • Theoretical re-evaluations of competition law’s objectives in the post-globalisation era.
  • The use of different research methodologies to best explore and understand competition law in transition

As always, we welcome contributions from early-career and established researchers alike, as well as from practitioners and policy-makers. The Workshop is in-person only and will be held at the University of Lisbon Law School.

Please submit abstracts of 500–1,000 words by Februarty 20 2026 to Professor Barry Rodger <barry.j.rodger@strath.ac.uk>
Decisions will be communicated by 2 March 2026.

A draft of the presentation or paper should be submitted a week before the event. Selected papers may be considered for publication in the Competition Law Review, a fully refereed scholarly law journal.

We look forward to your contributions to this timely and significant discussion.
